Managed by Formosa International Hotels Corporation, Mihan 101 on the fourth floor of the Taipei 101 Mall has been a hot spot for great sushi and multifarious hot pots. And this summer from August 1 to September 30, Mihan 101 is putting a twist on hot foods with a Summer Steamer Trio, using a healthy steam method to cook up Japan’s popular summer foods – sake with beef, seaweed with seafood, and fagara with kongor eel.
Mihan Honken, the 3-in-1 restaurant on Level B3 of Grand Formosa Regent Taipei was the first to introduce the steamer concept from Japan to Taiwan. The Steamer is a type of kaseki-ryori (elite Japanese cuisine). The wooden steamer is placed over a shabu shabu pot so that the hot steam and boiling broth quickly cooks the food inside. The result is something that is light and refreshing yet has an absolutely magnificent taste. “The Japanese attach an importance to the seasons. They never eat winter produces in the summer, nor spring products in the fall,” says Mihan 101’s Executive Chef. “This is the reason why we have chosen sake, seaweed, and fagara, which are seasonal products of the summer, in our Summer Steamer Trio.”
The first of the three sets in the Summer Steamer Trio is Country Steamer, with US prime rib eye beef slices, baby cabbage, seasonal country vegetables and wild mushrooms, which are drizzled with fragrant sake wine to bring out the flavor. It is also topped with collagen jelly to boost the tenderness of the meat. The second of the Trio is the Seafood Steamer, where the steamer is layered with copious amounts of seaweed and succulent prawns, clams, and grouper plus Japanese scallops & Hiroshima oyster. When the steam goes through the container, the sweetness of the seafood mixes with the essence of the seaweed for a very aromatic experience. The third of the Trio is the Wholesome Steamer, where lotus root, burdock, and carrot are stewed in light soy sauce and dried fish soup, in which quality rice is cooked and toped with select konger eel and fagara.
In addition to the main course, each set also comes with Greens Salad with Japanese Dressing, Miso Soup, and Dessert. Each set for two is NT$1,500+10%.
